“For three months, in Taranto, there has been no therapy for children with disabilities and disabled children”

“I am astonished: reports continue to arrive affecting numerous families in the province of Taranto. In particular, the problem concerns children with deficits and disabled people, who have no longer received psychomotor and speech therapy therapies for about three months, because the structures in the province of Taranto lack the relevant figures. These children, rather than improving their situation, are in fact taking steps backwards, because no one can follow them. Furthermore, families are forced to pay for all therapies out of their own pockets without having any support.”

These are statements from the regional councilor of Fratelli d’Italia and vice-president of the Health Commission, Renato Perrini, who adds.
“How is it possible to cut such an important service for small users and their families, while paying attention to fragility? Among all the waste that I notice and denounce in public health, the decision is made to target the weakest link that needs attention. This is unacceptable to me and I will stand alongside the mothers and fathers of the children in every action until the Region and the Emiliano council take urgent measures to respond to an increasingly widespread need. President Emiliano, who has kept the Welfare delegation for himself, must intervene quickly to guarantee the smallest citizens the full use of services.
In fact, some parents have told me of the enormous progress their children have made thanks to specialist assistance and are desperate at the idea of having to do without it for half the allotted hours. Non-existent logotherapy and psychomotor skills. Many of these families have laboriously won the assistance and rehabilitation offered by public centers after having paid for it out of their own pockets for years and after having been on a waiting list for a right that should be guaranteed and which they once again see threatened. The future cannot be taken away from these children and their families.”
