the province of Prato goes to the polls, 3 new mayors out of 5 municipalities to vote – www.controradio.it

Prato elections – Three new mayors out of five municipalities to vote, a victory of only 22 votes for Vernio, the Democratic Party that is making the cut. Here are the numbers of the province of Prato at the polls.

The Democratic Party wins in the province of Prato, where in addition to the capital in the first round it won all the municipalities that were going to vote: three out of seven municipal administrations in the area are now led by women. The record of consensus in Montemurlo, where the outgoing Simone Calamai (Pd) was re-elected with over 76% of the votes, beating his challenger Lorenzo Marchi who represented the united centre-right.
Same script in the Bisenzio Valley, but with decidedly different proportions, given that the success rates of the Democrats are very low. Guglielmo Bongiorno (Pd) will be mayor of Cantagallo for the third consecutive time, the smallest of the municipalities in the valley. The outgoing mayor took advantage of the possibility of running for the third time granted by the law which allows municipalities with less than 15,000 inhabitants to eliminate the mandate limit for mayors. Bongiorno, with his coalition, collected 53.6% of the votes, defeating the center-right candidate Lorenzo Santi, who stopped at 46.3%.
The situation was decidedly more complicated in Vaiano, where the outgoing Primo Bosi had been ousted from his party before running again with his own list. Nothing to be done for him, Francesca Vivarelli (Pd) from the ‘Changing together for Vaiano’ list, which brought together a series of centre-left formations, including the Dems, of which she is part, became mayor. She won with 35.8% of the votes, second place to Bosi with 29.3%) and third place for Emanuela Paci (29.2%), candidate for mayor of the centre-right civic list “i Vaianesi”.
Finally, the sui generis electoral race of the valley presents a truly particular case: in Vernio the PD candidate Maria Lucarini became mayor by a handful of votes; exactly 22. His (centre-left) coalition in fact overtook by a margin, with 40.8%, the challenger from the Rilannciare Vernio list, Marco Ciani, who stopped at 40.1%. He too had recently left the Democratic Party to attempt a personal run, but emerged defeated.
