“The church of San Marco in Fano”

On Friday 31 May, in the Representative Hall of the Cassa di Risparmio di Fano Foundation, the essay “The church of San Marco in Fano” was presented, edited by Rossella Tecchi and Massimo Bonifazi, a volume that is part of the series of the Cassa di Risparmio di Fano Foundation dedicated to the churches of our city. The afternoon was introduced by President Giorgio Gragnola who, in thanking the authors Tecchi and Bonifazi, recalled the importance of texts like these since they represent a cultural heritage for the city of Fano. Rossella Tecchi got to the heart of the essay by remembering Don Carlo Rovaldi (parish priest of San Marco from 1972 to 2004) to whom we owe the birth of the publication. “When he contacted me to collaborate with him on the writing of a book on the church of San Marco – recalls Tecchi – he was committed to researching information regarding some details of the church that had never been seen in other ecclesial structures in Fano. I will always remember Don Carlo, who passed away in 2013, for his work which is then the basis of this volume”. Rossella Tecchi edited, within the book, the essay concerning the rebuilding of the church of San Marco over the centuries: from the primitive church in Romanesque style up to the date of reconstruction reported in the inscription of the festoon in the center of the apse arch which shows the the year 1785. The word then passed to the archivist and editor of the volume Massimo Bonifazi who took care of the inventory of the historical archive of the church of San Marco. We talked about the documentation present in the parish collection, consisting largely of registers, bound files, bundles, loose files, mass books, certificates and marriage practices. Thanks to this volume, those present were able to delve deeper into some historical-cultural aspects of one of the oldest churches in Fano.
