CATANIA – The lawyer Lucia Tuccitto was confirmed as president for a second term of the Catania Section of the Adgi, Association of women lawyers in Italy. The secretary and the lawyer were also confirmed Maria Chiaramonte. Tuccitto mainly deals with civil, corporate and contract law.

A professional committed to the issues of female empowerment and professional growth, she is an expert in gender certification for companies. In 2018, she was among the Co-founders of the Catania section of Adgi. The board of directors, in office for the next three years, is made up of professionals engaged in different areas of law with particular attention to gender issues, on a social, legal and legislative level.

The vice presidents

Lawyers were appointed in the role of vice presidents Maria Lucia D’Anna, long-time criminal lawyer from the Catania Bar, involved in crimes against women victims of violence; And Veronica Sicari, which deals with criminal and domestic criminal law, juvenile law, protection of women victims of domestic and gender violence, also as an Anti-Violence Center operator, as well as the civil aspects of family law.

Gina Anchevivo completes the boardwhich deals with judicial and extrajudicial assistance in civil, commercial and corporate matters, condominium, family law and contracts in general, in the capacity of Treasury Advisor.

Gender equality

“It is important to focus on female empowerment – underlines Lucia Tuccitto -. Gender equality is achieved when men and women have the same rights, responsibilities and opportunities in all sectors of society. The picture that emerged from the latest World Bank report “Women, Business, and the Law”, published last March, is absolutely desolate and certifies the greatest discrimination in the history of humanity”.

“Instead, gender equality at work would increase GDP by 20%. Women have only 64% of the legal protections of men. Closing this gap would double the global growth rate over the next decade – continues the president -. Even today, gender inequality is a social emergency, this can be seen in the data, especially economic ones, and I am referring to the gender pay gap, equal pay for men and women, and women’s participation in political life”.

Eliminating the wage gap is still very difficult. Just as the combination of woman and power is difficult. The new board, in continuity with what has been done to date – continues Lucia Tuccitto – and in synergy with the national board, will continue the path ensuring commitment to all those initiatives aimed at equal opportunities in economic and social development. But above all we want to make our contribution to the elimination of all forms of violence against women.”

The next actions

The president announces that actions are in the pipeline to promote the participation of women at all levels of social and political organization “in order to reduce the plague of the economic gap and the representation of women in institutionsin the full implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda, with awareness of the roles played”.

The Italian Women Jurists Association, which adheres to the FIFCJ – Fedération Internationale des Femmes des Carrières Juridiques, active throughout the national territory through its offices, aims to contribute to the elimination of all forms of discrimination towards women.

She fights for the affirmation of gender equality and female empowerment, through the diffusion of the principles of equality enshrined in the Constitution and the Charter of the United Nations, both with legislative promotion activities. And the Catania section is also moving on this front.
