2024 is a special year for Pesaro Film Festival Circusthe film festival for children curated by Giulietta Fara, scheduled from 16 to 20 June inside the International Exhibition of New Cinema. In fact, Circus turns four years old, in the 60th edition of the Pesaro Film Festival. And this year the city will also be the Italian Capital of Culture… If these anniversaries were not enough to make the event unmissable for young cinephiles, here are other good reasons to leave for the city in the Marche region.
Activities for children
Children will not only be spectators but also protagonists. Together with the illustrator and animator Piero Tonin and the participation of the director and artist Manfredo Manfredi they will create a real Carousel on Pesaro, capital of culture entitled Pesarello. Series of workshops which will be held from Sunday 16th to Wednesday 19th at Cinema Astra in the afternoon. Thursday 20th, however, will be the turn of the Cinematic treasure huntwhich will take them to discover the city, with riddles about cinema and curious clues.

But let’s get to the film programme, which as always will show children how varied the world of animation can be, choosing cartoons made with very different techniques and styles. We start on the 16th with a film preview for Italy, The Inseparables by Jérèmie Degrusoncartoon to Toy Story which features a puppet with a fervent imagination and the stuffed doll DJ Doggy Dog, who will live an unforgettable adventure on the streets of New York. The next day it will be his turn Sirocco et le Royaume des courants of air by Benoît Chieux, a film with atmospheres between Miyazaki and Alice in Wonderland, which tells the story of two sisters who are transformed into cats. They will arrive on the 18th Rosa and the Troll of Petra by Karla Nor Holmbäckwhile on the 19th there will be another tasty preview: 10 Lives by Christopher Jenkinswhere the 10 lives are those of the cat Becket, saved from a cat shelter but who has become spoiled and self-centered, who when he runs out of his 9 lives, asks the guardian of Paradise to be able to live another one… He will be able to live another nine but only by reincarnating every time in a different animal and thus learning to put yourself in the shoes of others.
The special guest
All mini spectators of Circus can vote to award the Audience Award to the film they liked the most. The festival awards ceremony will be held on Thursday 20th at 9.30pm in Piazza del Popolo together with an exceptional godfather: the great director Enzo d’Alò who will present his latest film to the public Mery and the Midnight Spiritbased on the novel The midnight trip by Roddy Doyle, also telling the secrets of the film’s production.
