The ‘suspicious’ silence of the last twenty-four hours was probably due to the final choice: the president of Ternana Nicola Guida and the sporting director Stefano Capozucca, in these hours have reached an agreement with Ignazio Abate to entrust him with the technical guidance of the first team. However, the profile had been clear for some time: a young coach, with a great desire to emerge and capable of offering modern football. Having explored Marco Marchionni (as far as we know, the only real alternative), the Via della Bardesca club subsequently turned strongly towards Abate, who last season led the Milan Primavera.

Ignazio Abate

Who is

37 years old, native of Sant’Agata dè Goti, a municipality in the province of Benevento, Ignazio Abate has a long history as a footballer, especially among the ranks of Milan (a scudetto and two Italian Super Cups are the trophies won with the Rossoneri). Then, from the 2022 season, he began his career as a coach, always with the ‘devil’: under 16, then under 19 and finally coach of the Primavera, with whom this year he reached the final of the Youth League (the equivalent of Champions League) losing it against Olympiacos. Abate usually adopts the 4-3-3, paying close attention to the attacking wingers. He also often proposed the 4-2-3-1, with the so-called ‘inverted top’, i.e. the use of an attacking midfielder in place of the low playmaker in front of the defence.
