Viterbo – Armed robbery at the petrol station, part of the stick used as a weapon in the trunk of the getaway car. The other half remained on the ground along with a gun during the shooting and attack on the petrol station attendants. The man driving the car, a 56-year-old, was stopped on the Cassia: arrested, he was transferred to the Regina Coeli prison.

“Yesterday morning the men of the state police of the flying squad of the Viterbo police headquarters, together with the Flaminio Nuovo police station in Rome, arrested an Italian, born in 1968, in the capital, in the Cassia Nord area, for robbery attack committed in Viterbo just over an hour earlier – the police station said.
In particular, around 9.30 am, personnel from the flying squad, together with the police cars from the Viterbo police station, intervened near the Ewa petrol station to report a robbery that had just taken place.

A blank pistol and a broken wooden stick were found on the spot, both weapons used by the robbers to attack a petrol station attendant, of African nationality, securing a loot of around €1,800, proceeds from the petrol station.
The subsequent investigations carried out by the policemen of the Viterbo flying squad, using cameras in the escape routes, made it possible to identify the exact license plate number of the car used and its direction towards Rome.
Thus, through collaboration with the Rome flying squad, the searches were extended to that province and, shortly afterwards, the car was stopped by a squad car from the Flaminio Nuovo police station, reached shortly afterwards by the Viterbo police.
On board, a single person was found and, furthermore, the other half of the stick used in the robbery was found.
For these reasons, the subject was arrested and initially held in hospital, following the injuries sustained in the robbery at the petrol station, then, this morning he was taken by the men of the police station to the Regina Coeli prison to await the validation hearing.

Investigations are underway to identify further responsibilities. The arrest was communicated to the public prosecutor’s office of Rome and the consequent investigations will be coordinated by the public prosecutor’s office of Viterbo, responsible for the place where the robbery took place” concludes the note.
Presumption of innocence
In the Italian criminal system the presumption of innocence applies until the final sentence. Presumption of innocence which is based on article 27 of the Italian constitution according to which a person “is not considered guilty until finally convicted”.
