We’re back talking about the commemorative stamp for Italo Foschi which has caused quite a bit of controversy in recent days. The regional councilor of the PD, Antonio Di Marco, writes in a statement:

“On 6 June the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy (Mimit) presented the stamp celebrating the 140th anniversary of the birth of Italo Foschi, founder of the school. Rome. This philatelic issue caused enormous indignation as Foschi – a native of Corropoli (TE) – has a curriculum as a true fascist: collaborator of the hierarch Roberto Farinacci (who wanted him as federal of Rome); leader of the gang that devastated the house of former prime minister Francesco Saverio Nitti and the editorial offices of various newspapers; remembered as one of those responsible for the persecution of the Jews in Veneto and above all an admirer of Giacomo Matteotti’s murderer, Amerigo Dumini, whom he defined as ‘a hero, worthy of all our admiration’. As if that wasn’t enough, he was even kicked out of the National Fascist Party (but later reinstated) for “excessive squadrism”.

And he adds: “At Mimit they must have noticed the fool and so the presentation was almost clandestine: the minister Adolfo Urso did not show up and no image or press release came out of his diligent press office, which also emphatically publicized the issues philatelics to remember the assassination of Giacomo Matteotti (10 June), to celebrate the Italian presidency of the G7 (11 June) and to honor the memory of the former Pooh drummer Stefano D’Orazio (12 June).

To find out about the presentation dedicated to Foschi you need to go to a Roma fan site, forzaroma.info, which publishes the news and a photo of the ceremony in which the Abruzzo senator Guido Liris is recognised. Evidently for the L’Aquila member of the Fratelli d’Italia it seems not only normal but indeed noteworthy to celebrate a fascist thug, among other things a few hours after the centenary of the killing of Giacomo Matteotti, for which Foschi complimented the murderer Dumini ”.

“Yesterday’s news is that 12 consumer associations have asked Poste Italiane to withdraw the stamp, but even without this detail, Senator Liris would have had to abstain from commemorating such a controversial figure. Being on the right is legitimate, honoring the atrocities of the fascists is anti-historical and chilling”, concludes Di Marco.
