LECCE – With a note sent to the press in the evening, Adriana Poli Bortone, who came close to winning in the first round against the outgoing mayor, Carlo Salvemini, is focusing the relaunch of her electoral campaign on a political analysis of the numbers acquired so far. The electoral commission, in fact, is working to close the minutes of the four missing sections.
“The evidence is solid and indisputable – he said -: Salvemini was rejected by the voters and there is a new majority in the city. Net of the findings from the central electoral office, which could confirm or improve the centre-right’s performance at the polls, over 50 percent of citizens chose to send Salvemini home, rejecting his work and his seven years of administration”.
Adriana Poli Bortone appears convinced that she has the wind in her sails in anticipation of the run-off which, unless there are a justified ministerial postponement decree, has been set for 23 and 24 June: “Beyond the proclamations in which the outgoing mayor announces run-offs still open and unlikely readings of realities that not even the left believes in. The result achieved by the centre-right coalition is a source of pride for all of us! We are faced with an extraordinary story for the entire community of Lecce. A result that commits each of us to fight together with the entire center-right, to consolidate and overcome the consensus obtained and to immediately start setting the policies of my program for Lecce.
The centre-right candidate says she is encouraged and motivated by the push from below: “I am happy, because I built my program with the citizens and the citizens appreciated it. We will continue to discuss these issues, involving the people of Lecce, businesses, professional associations and all the active entities in the area. Because – and I repeat it forcefully – true participation will be the instrument of my administrative action. A sharing which – as I have already said – will not be an empty slogan but the keystone of the process of democratic construction of projects and objectives for Lecce. On the other hand, right after the first results of the polls I continue to receive the stimuli of people who show me an extraordinary affection, encourage me and push me to move forward with even greater determination. Above all, the testimonies of affection, esteem and encouragement from so many young people fill me with joy and motivation. The thanks I address to everyone is only a starting point, because we must all resume the journey towards the future of Lecce together.”
