The Archeoclub d’Italia, headquarters of Bisceglie, is pleased to announce the city’s participation in the European Days of Archeology (GEA) 2024, which will be held next 14/15/16 June throughout Europe, an annual event dedicated to promotion of the continent’s archaeological heritage. This year, attention will be focused on the research and documentation work of Prof. Luigi Palmiotti, author of numerous studies on the Dolmen La Chianca area and other archaeological sites in the Bisceglie countryside.
Prof. Luigi Palmiotti has dedicated his life with passion to research and valorization of the archaeological heritage of his hometown, Bisceglie. Founder of the Ethnographic Museum of Bisceglie, Palmiotti played a crucial role in the study of the Dolmen La Chianca, one of the most significant megalithic monuments in Europe, and numerous other archaeological sites in the region. His works have provided new insights into the ancient civilizations that inhabited this area, enriching historical knowledge of Puglia and southern Italy.
Program of Events
During the European Archeology Days 2024, the Bisceglie branch of the Archeoclub d’Italia will organize the opening of its headquarters at the Norman Tower to meet Prof. Palmiotti and discuss his research:
• Saturday 15 June: at the Norman Tower Prof. Luigi Palmiotti will hold an inaugural conference where he will present his research and discuss the importance of Dolmen La Chianca and other local archaeological sites.
• Sunday 16 June: from 10:00 to 12:00, we will welcome visitors at the Tower upon reservation and (with a car) we will be able to reach the Dolmen La Chianca. The professor. Palmiotti and the Archeoclub members will accompany visitors, illustrating the archaeological site.
Participation and Information
The Archeoclub d’Italia invites all history and archeology enthusiasts to participate in these events to learn more about the cultural heritage of Bisceglie. Participation in the events is free, but booking is recommended.
