«First of all there is an objective point: at 5.34pm a video crystallizes the scene of the impact. According to objective data, in five or six minutes at most, I made a turn and saved a man overboard who was asking for help. A timely intervention, made problematic by the malfunction of a door on my boat. The fact remains that, ever since a passenger reported to me the presence of a man overboard until the rescue, five or at most six minutes passed.”
There are two videos of the accident, those that would explain the role of his boat in the collision. What is your rating of him?
«I only know that my boat was lifted and inspected this morning and I don’t think there is even a scratch on it. Obviously I respect the investigations and trust in the work that the investigators are carrying out. I am ready to take responsibility if my role in this story is proven. I keep telling myself and others that neither I nor the other guests on the boat noticed anything.”
How are you living at the moment?
“I can’t help but think of that young woman’s destroyed life and I can’t give myself peace.”
What did he do today?
«I worked and received clients. I’ve been to the studio. I worked hard, but I assure you it’s hard.”
What hurt you most in this story?
«What is called media pillory. I haven’t connected to the internet for hours and haven’t consulted online newspapers. I know that my face and my name are on all the news in Italy and frankly I don’t think it’s right.”
What is it referring to?
«You see, I am assisting a person held responsible for a road homicide that occurred in Naples. A serious fact, for which no one has mentioned the name of the suspect as it is right for a civilization of law and in a country where citizens’ guarantees are respected. It’s not like that with me. Indeed: it was a crescendo. First it was said that a well-known Neapolitan criminal lawyer was under investigation (as if it were a news item), then the name and my photograph.”
A significant fact that has disturbed public opinion, don’t you think?
«A drama that has upset my life, for which – it is worth remembering – an investigation is underway by the Prosecutor’s Office. I was involved because necessary investigations are underway, but the process is not closed. And it is not right to throw a person into a vortex of accusations and references that should only be the responsibility of the judicial authority, at the end of a regular investigative work.”
