“Reading the self-exculpatory declarations and post-election comments of Senator Nicola Irto, regional secretary of the Democratic Party and of some regional councilors probably affected by the first summer heat, one is literally amazed.”
Michele Mirabello, regional director of the Democratic Party and former regional councilor points the finger at the leaders of his party.
“Two and a half years have passed since the congress and the end of the commissionership of the Calabrian Democratic Party, but the turning point that was talked about on the eve, with the choice of a single candidate, also young and with excellent political training, to whom to entrust the work of regeneration (or complete the work of purging the Neapolitan dyad?) unfortunately not even the shadow. Indeed, now we discover, with numbers in hand, that the PD is, unlike the whole of Southern Italy, in free fall in our latitudes, 9 percentage points below the national average, with the Federations (practically all) in disarray and without political direction, with the group of regional councilors formally (but only formally) “opposition”, impalpable and totally devoid of political impetus and initiative, with the local administrators disjointed and often in opposition, armed one against the other. It is a desolate picture, in which first of all a serious lack of political initiative emerges, whereas on the contrary, in the neighboring regions, for example, the serious, convinced, unitary and organized battle on differentiated autonomy was probably capable of producing a public and recognized perception of the party, which translated into consensus and votes with encouraging results”.
“To the total devastation of a party adrift, which in recent years has not been able to regenerate itself on the one hand by activating new forces and energies, nor on the other hand to relaunch itself by bringing back to the cause dozens of leaders, experiences, intelligences, personalities, set aside and marginalized , in all territories, from what were once sarcastically defined as “third and fourth rows” with the complicity of the absence and reticence of the secretary Irto. In practice, a devastating chemistry has been created in Calabria between the apparently disinterested “lassez fair” of Irto and the domination of proconsuls authorized to exclude, divide, purge and alienate any form of dissent or criticism. Now to place the responsibility for this devastating climate of low empire simplistically on the, however indefensible, federations, carefully avoiding carrying out serious analyzes and constructive self-criticisms, frankly, would also make us laugh, if it were not one of the many, usual, jokes in very bad taste ”, concludes Mirabello.
