In the Neighborhoods of Crotone – Remembering is not an operation of simple nostalgia but is essential to avoid repeating the mistakes of the past.
This is the teaching that Jedi Master Sol imparts to the young padwan (Jedi apprentice) Jecki Lon in the first episode of “The Acolyte”, the new Star Wars saga.
And we too should learn some Jedi teachings, and this one in particular.

In the 1996 flood one of the neighborhoods of the city most affected by the fury of the Esaro was San Francesco, and in particular via Sciascia, where the water reached the balconies of the first floor of the buildings. Tragic, painful and still vivid memories in the inhabitants of the area who wanted to report some problems in the neighborhood and in particular on the river bank.

When we arrived on site we were amazed to see the condition of the embankment. Walls destroyed or seriously damaged, almost non-existent embankment, barrier reduced to a minimum. An even more evident situation of abandonment in the area where the flood alarm was installed, a bit paradoxical, but in Crotone nothing can surprise us anymore.
To make the situation worse there is the general degradation of the area where, as one resident tells us: “We haven’t seen a strip of asphalt for at least fifty years.”
Clearly, as is the nature of this column of ours, we are not here to engage in controversy, but only to highlight situations that can be resolved, sometimes even with little.

But the most important thing is the signal that the people of the neighborhood wanted to send from the columns of CrotoneOk.
Thirty years after the flood, still being afraid of what could happen is not normalbut above all it is not acceptable.
That that memory still burns within the citizens of Crotone, and in particular among those who live in the neighborhoods most affected by the fury of the water at the time, is absolutely human, but that memory and that pain must only be a warning to avoid the mistakes made in past and to implement the right corrective measures to our neighborhoods so as to avoid another drama, which, in these conditions, would also be yet another mockery.
