Salvatore Cabibbo on the staff of Sergio Scariolo’s Spain for the pre-Olympic meeting?
All true. The Ragusan coach from Santa Croce Camerina, who has moved to Como for twelve years (he teaches at Ripamonti and has coached some teams in the capital), has in fact been in Malaga for a few days where the Iberian national team is holding a training session in view of the pre-Olympic tournament which will begin on July 2nd in Valencia.
Cabibbo himself explains how it was possible. «Coaching in Switzerland, I participated in the Euroleague Coaches Academy. Before I was a student and for two years I have been an ambassador. Scariolo asked the Academy for two students to support his technical staff. And they selected me.”
Who knows what emotion. «Yes, he called me Scariolo and I didn’t believe it. I was delighted and accepted immediately. He explained to me what he needs: we are not part of the national team and in the matches we will not go on the bench, but during the training camp which will last until July 7th we will be on the field helping the assistants. And it’s a lot of stuff. I’ll see how such a successful national team works.”
