The redeveloped Largo San Paolo car park in Ragusa Ibla was inaugurated yesterday morning, an important project that offers 51 new parking spaces in one of the most evocative villages in Sicily. The inauguration ceremony saw the participation of the mayor Peppe Cassì together with numerous citizens and representatives of local institutions.
“In Ibla, as in any art village or historic center, 51 more parking spaces are extremely useful,” declared mayor Peppe Cassì. “After a consolidation and maintenance activity, which affected not only the structure but also the systems and signs, this new rest area is ready to be used, coinciding with the start of the tourist season. It is a precious resource that adds to the ongoing work for the multi-storey car park in Via Peschiera, carried out in synergy between multiple bodies and departments.”

The strategic importance of the new car park

The councilor for historic centers Giovanni Gurrieri underlined the strategic importance of the new car park for urban mobility: “The Largo San Paolo car park will be a strategic point for our mobility. Thanks to the splendid stairs leading to the Carmine and the stop of the new public transport service, which will start on 17 June, it will be possible to comfortably leave the car here to reach both the historic upper part and the heart of Ibla. The car park also has 10 stalls for motorcycles and 2 for people with disabilities. This intervention is part of a general redevelopment action of the neighborhood, which includes the restoration of the path towards the ancient mill, the construction of the sidewalk and the restoration of the viewpoint of via Risorgimento. Furthermore, with the collaboration of the Department of Economic Development, the upcoming restoration of the former Largo San Paolo slaughterhouse will transform it into a hub for alternative mobility”.

The opening of the Largo San Paolo car park represents a concrete response to the parking and mobility needs of residents and tourists, helping to improve accessibility and further enhance one of the most fascinating historic centers on the island.
