Drugs and undisciplined driving
The drugs were hidden among the cracks and crevices of the walls of old houses, now abandoned, but this did not mean that they escaped the scent of “Ares”, the State Police drug-detection dog which, once again, made it possible to find a significant quantity of narcotic substances, including marijuana, hashish and cocaine.
The police checks were concentrated in the San Berillo district, where the agents of the “Central” Public Security Commissariat patrolled the neighborhood, dealing with situations of absolute degradation, in order to combat drug dealing.
The service was carried out with the help of the canine unit of the General Prevention and Public Rescue Office of the Police Headquarters and with the intervention of a team from the Mobile Department, ready to act in the event of disorderly reactions on the part of the various groups of non-EU citizens who often find themselves stationed in Buda, Bonsignore, Pistone and Delle Finanze streets where, already in previous reports, phenomena of widespread illegality have been ascertained, starting with retail drug dealing.
In addition to the already known technique of hiding drugs in the cavities of buildings, this time the drug dealers tried to hide several wrappers of marijuana, ready for sale, among waste of all kinds, piled up inside a building in Via Piston. In any case, the police managed to find a bag with 54 grams of marijuana among the garbage.
In via Buda, Ares’s nose was attracted by a bag containing a hashish bar weighing over 83 grams and 19 wraps of cocaine weighing 3.6 grams. A targeted intervention was necessary in a building in via Bonsignore where the drug-sniffing dog smelled the presence of narcotic substances, hidden in a building at a considerable height compared to the road.
Two officers from the Mobile Department climbed up to take a bag containing two wrappers with 52.5 grams and 61 grams of marijuana respectively. Other bags with seven cartons of marijuana weighing 8.2 grams and another weighing 25.9 were found behind a sheet of metal, again in Vico Bonsignore. All material found was seized.
Further checks coordinated by the “Central” Commissariat with three crews of the “Eastern Sicily” Crime Prevention Department were carried out in via VI Aprile, piazza Stesicoro, via Tezzano and piazza della Repubblica, through the establishment of checkpoints which made it possible to identify 102 people, of which 13 with police records, 49 motor vehicles and 2 motor vehicles, contesting 5 infringements, two for failure to inspect, one for lack of insurance coverage, one against a minor for driving a moped without ever having obtained a driving licence, one for driving without a registration card. A seizure and administrative detention took place.
