The Register of Welcoming Families opens to university students: new collaboration protocol with the Ravenna Campus

The Register of Welcoming Families of the Municipality is open to students of the University. For this a was signed new collaboration protocol with the Ravenna Campus also using the ‘Ravenna welcomes talents’ project, coordinated by the Municipality and supported by the Emilia-Romagna Region through an innovative law which aims to attract and retain highly specialized talents in the area.

The project involves the activation of an integrated local system and, in the specific case, bureaucratic-administrative support services, orientation to the territory and makes available the tool of the Register of welcoming families, launched in 2021 and initially aimed only at minors and adults.

The collaboration with the Ravenna Campus of the University of Bologna and with the Flaminia Foundation “therefore aims to give the opportunity to non-residents to apply for family hospitality and to families and citizens to support young students, especially in the initial start-up phase of the university experience. The latter will also be able to apply to be supported by a mentor or a voluntary figure to support their stay and their journey in the city”. “The ever-increasing presence of young people in the city for study purposes is extremely positive from every point of view and is an added value for the future – says Immigration councilor Federica Moschini – but new needs are also emerging which need to be paid attention to , among which that of finding accessible housing solutions stands out”.

“In the current situation of international uncertainty, the Register project, shared immediately and with conviction by the Campus – also states Mario Neve, president of Campus – represents a strong signal of welcome and integration, which concretely responds to a deeply felt need” . In fact, the University of Bologna – Ravenna Campus has recently recorded a strong growth in enrollments in general and, specifically, in enrollments of international students.

The new initiative is therefore connected to the immigration desk for international students, reactivated at the Ravenna Campus, also developed as part of the “Ravenna Welcomes Talents” project, which communicates with the International Desk of the Ravenna Campus, the orientation service, reception and information which for ten years has provided international students with administrative support for university procedures and a meeting point with local services. The challenge is therefore “to mobilize citizens and families so that they can give an opportunity to the many students”. Citizens who apply can offer hospitality for periods of 3 or 6 months, or offer their time as a tutor to welcome students from other areas of Italy or other countries around the world and help them seize the social and cultural opportunities of the Ravenna area.

Both students and citizens willing to welcome them can apply in the appropriate section on the website https://famiglieaccoglienti.comune.ra.it/. Following registration, people will be contacted by the Refugees Welcome Association, which coordinates the Register, for an interview and short training.
