Carrara, 12 June 2024 – It has arrived at the port of Carrara Marina there Ocean Viking ship of the NGO SOS Mediterranee with on board 64 migrants rescued in two different operations. The ship, which entered the port around 7.15am, reached the Tuscan coast after having rescued migrants in the southern Mediterranean in the Libyan SAR area on 8 June.
For the port of Marina di Carrara it is a total of thirteenth landing since 2023the fourth of 2024. For the Ocean Viking it is the second time at the Apuan port: previously it had arrived on 30 January 2023 with on board 95 peoplethe first of thirteen total landings at the port of Marina di Carrara.
The reception operations on the dock and the disembarkation procedures are coordinated by the Prefecture of Massa Carrara. On the dock there were volunteers, health support and law enforcement, as well as staff from the Port Authority and the Port Authority. The migrants will receive the first checks on board, and will then be accompanied by buses to the nearby Imm-CarraraFiere exhibition complex for identification procedures and medical checks. After being refreshed, the migrants will finally leave for the reception facilities selected throughout Italy
