Who will tip the scales in the runoff? Here’s who will decide the elections in Perugia, Foligno, Gubbio, Bastia Umbra and Orvieto

To assert one’s electoral strength to decide the runoffs in Perugia, Foligno, Orvieto, Bastia Umbra and Gubbio. The politics of the needles of the scales are already moving to tip the needle this way or that. In the aftermath of the vote, there are already those who have started to weave the thread of new agreements. “I have never been searched for so much,” confesses a defeated mayoral candidate, smiling. However, something is cooking in the five cities of Umbria that will be forced to have a second election. Who at this moment will try to derive the maximum political advantage from the role of tipping the scales? In Perugia certainly Massimo Monni who had 1,124 votes which could be decisive for the election of the first female mayor in the regional capital. Then there are Davide Baiocco’s votes to capture: 631 (0.76). Important consensuses, free from any affiliation and, in some ways, difficult to direct. Leonardo Caponi’s 455 votes, however, are more within reach than Ferdinandi. In Foligno, however, the most courted is the very Catholic Enrico Presilla, candidate of the Popular Alliance, who obtained a significant 5.98%. In the city of Quintana there are also the almost one thousand votes for Moreno Finamonti which are tempting for many. Presilla and Finamonti certainly represent the real balance. In Orvieto the most courted is the manager Roberta Palazzetti who has received a good number of votes: 2,124 votes equal to 19.35%. By combining the consensus of Stefano Biagioli with that of Roberta Palazzetti, the center-left could win the elections. Then there is a 6.4% obtained by the youngest candidate, Giordano Conticelli (703 votes) which could make the difference. “The majority of alternative forces – explains Biagioli – could bring about the change necessary to relaunch Orvieto”. In Bastia Umbra, where the Democratic Party overtook Fdi, Catia Degli Esposti will hold the balance in the run-off on 23 and 24 June. “We are waiting to understand before deciding – said Catia Degli Esposti – however there are no particular preclusions. We will talk to whoever wants to talk to us, I don’t know if they will look for us from the right or the left.” The situation in Gubbio is much more complicated, where Vittorio Fiorucci of the centre-right and Rocco Girlanda, former parliamentarian of Forza Italia, will be in the run-off. In Gubbio the connections are complicated: three mayoral candidates (Nafissi, Francesca Della Porta and Tognoloni) are centre-left and will hardly be able to officially ally themselves with one of the two centre-right candidates. However, anything can happen under the radar, including agreements between individual councilor candidates from the different lists. In fact, in these hours the breakdown of all order and disposition is underway. A break in the ranks that will allow individual candidates all kinds of choices and movements.
