450 cars, all built between 1927 and 1957, covering a 2,200 km route, divided into five stages. These are the numbers. But the Mille Miglia is much more: it is history, it is legend, it has always been a race and adventure. Among the priceless vintage cars here are three jewels belonging to the historical collection owned by Stellantis: Lancia Aurelia B20GT from 1951, Alfa Romeo 1900 Sport Spider from 1954 and 1900C Super Sprint from 1956.
From old to new
Three gems still shining today, followed along the way by the latest creations of their respective brands as Support Cars: Alfa Romeo Junior and Lancia Ypsilon. “We are also here to have a bit of pleasure and to accompany this Mille Miglia with the Junior, which we are launching. We work to create this link between the Alfa Romeo of today and the Alfa Romeo of yesterday”, says the managing director by Alfa Romeo Jean-Philippe Learned.
The concept of the event is a regularity race, which rewards the ability of drivers and navigators to respect travel times and speed limits. This has been the case since 1977, given that before then it was to all intents and purposes a road race between Brescia and Rome. It is no coincidence that for Enzo Ferrari it was “the most beautiful race in the world”.
