The ASD Swimmers of the Carroccio collects great successes among Agonists and Masters

During the weekend of June 1st and 2ndthe Competitive team of swimmers from the Carroccio di Legnano participated for the first time in the 10th National Meeting of swimming “AZZURRI -D ITALY – 6th Giorgio Gandini Memorialheld at the Italcementi Piscine Sports Center in Bergamo.

The trophy, organized in a 50 m outdoor pool, unfortunately had to deal with inclement weather, fortunately only during the last races of the event, and saw the finals of the 50 and 200 m breaststroke and the relays canceled (due to rain). 4×100 medley.

The formula chosen by the organizers followed the one used for the national and international competitions: the qualifying heats in the morning and, in the afternoon, the finals of the first 8 best times, for each category (beginners/boys/Juniors and Overall). The young talents of the NdC therefore had to learn to manage their energy during the qualifiers, and then be at the top during the finals. It was therefore also an opportunity for young people from Legnano to gain experience.

Eleven athletes have been called up, accompanied by Coach Serena Colombowhich the two days of away matches in Bergamo brought together even more, under the aegis of the team spirit which has always distinguished the club.

The individual times recorded by each athlete were excellent, among which there were numerous best times. Of note is the entry into the final of Pietro Notari, in the 50 and 100 m backstroke DO (2004, cadet cat.), Francesco Re, in the 50 and 100 m breaststroke (2002, cat., senior), Elisabetta Re, in the 50 m breaststroke (2008 junior category), and Francesca Vismara, in the 100 and 200 m backstroke and in the 100 m breaststroke (2005 senior category).

Particular satisfaction of the technical manager, the Coach Tomas Falsittafor the performance of the young Andrea Pessina (2007, junior category), who, in addition to having reached the final in the three specialties of 50, 100 and 200 m backstroke, obtained 3rd place in the 100 m backstroke and 2nd placed in the 200 backstroke, stopping the clock at two best times.

The coach’s words: «The Bomber – as we call Andrea in the team – was the protagonist of a fluctuating season, due to school commitments, but in Bergamo he demonstrated that he knows how to be ready for important occasions. Sport, as we in the Northern League conceive it, is a game: you can win and you can lose, but if you give your best the result will always be a success and a moment of growth. All our kids work hard, regardless of the results, and we are very proud of this. I would like to thank all the technical staff, in particular Coach Serena Colombo for the support and great commitment shown during this period”

The next appointment for the competitive team is scheduled for 15 and 16 June, in Piacenza, for the XLII National Vittorino da Feltre Trophy.

On the Masters front, however, the “older” team of the Carroccio is fresh from participating in the 12th Master Piscine Trophy of Albaro – 3rd Sergio Gennari Cup, which took place just past Saturday 8 June in Genoa. Despite the limited number of specialties in which the athletes managed to try their hand – due to travel reasons they were not chosen to participate in most of the morning races – the team achieved a splendid 2nd place in the general team ranking.

Now for the Masters the road is clear towards the Italian Championships in Riccione, the last pool event for the 2023/2024 season.
