“Given my best. Sassari has a great future ahead”

In home Torres it’s time to think on the one hand about the future which will see the rossoblù protagonists once again Pro League after last season’s extraordinary run in group B. On the other hand, however, it is also time to say goodbye. Among those who will leave the group led by the reconfirmed Alfonso Greco there is one of the charismatic leaders of the Torres locker room, the third rossoblù goalkeeper Pierpaolo Garauwho decided to hang up his boots at the age of 40.

The decision

In a long and heartfelt post on social media, Garau explained the reasons that led him to opt for the retirement from playing football. For the rossoblù number 1 one long reflection which lasted for most of last year but which did not affect what was his true primary objective, namely that of giving his best for his Torres, with which, in group B of Lega Pro as soon as he finished, he scored 2 official appearances and as many clean sheets (both obtained in the championship against Lucchese And Perugia). “Well… The time has come… I already know that someone will write that it was time, finally… The truth is that it is never easy to say enough, those who love this sport and those who live it intensely know this well…. It is a decision that I have taken over the course of this season, aware of having to do it at the right time, after having given my contribution on the field this year too to the maximum of my potential…. Yes on the pitch, that green rectangle where I have been defending my Little White House for years, with great passion, with objectives and small dreams that have contributed to my football journey… I have become a man thanks to football, with the rules, with the sacrifice and hard work….I thank all the people I have known and met, I have learned something from all of them, I have shared the joys and pains of this splendid sport with all of them…I have worn many glorious shirts, and each of these has left me indelible memories…Thanks also to my wife and my family who have always been my first fans and who have put up with my mood swings for years…I am proud of myself, of what I have done and given, always with my head held high, always hoeing every centimeter, without waiting for favors or various agents… In these last 3 years I have lived a daydream, I wore the shirt with which I grew up, the shirt of the team of my heart, of my city…. Believe me: I tried to enjoy every single moment and those who know me well know it… Torres has a great future, and having contributed to all this is priceless…. Sassari continues to dream because sooner or later dreams they come true…. I’m hanging up my gloves….But the story continues…”Garau wrote with emotion on his social accounts, thanking the team that allowed him to experience an exciting three-year period, even reaching the playoffs to compete for Serie B.

The captain’s greeting

One of the first to greet Garau affectionately after his decision to leave football, praising his figure in particular from a footballing and human point of view, was the captain of Torres, Gigi Scotto. Also the number 9 di Alfonso Greco he entrusted his thoughts to social media. “Football is beautiful because it allows you to meet and play with special people. Today a man and an amazing goalkeeper are hanging up his gloves who has never stopped believing in himself and has managed to play professionally at the age of 38, thanks to his talent to his strength and humility! You have been an example for everyone. Thank you because I was lucky enough to be a player with you, and thank you for being your friend. I will miss the phrase scotto Garau non hanni mai pessu learn Simply Pierpaolo Garella”declared Scotto himself.
