migrants away within 15 days, once the ordinance is signed

TRIESTE – The mayor of Trieste, Roberto Dipiazzasigned an ordinance for the clearing of the Silos, the dilapidated structure next to the central station without any type of service from water to electricity, where hundreds of migrants live in very precarious conditions both from a hygienic, health and social point of view among rubbish and animals. The eviction will take place within fifteen days and the migrants will be transferred outside Trieste to a location not yet specified. Dipiazza specified that the destination of the migrants will not be the one foreseen some time ago – after many months of controversy – a structure in Campo Sacro, on the Trieste Karst, because “it is not yet ready”.

The provision refers to a “completely abandoned” building which follows an inspection carried out a couple of months ago by operators from Asugi, the Giuliano Isontina university health company, who had found, as was already known, that the place cannot accommodate people . The ordinance also provides that the owner of the building, Coop Alleanza 3.0, will have to secure and clean the structure within fifteen days by fencing it off and ensuring supervision.
