Tirinnanzi Spa Legnano does not back down, unions: “Permanent strike”

Black smoke for the first discussion table between the trade unions Filcams CGIL Ticino Olona and the historic Legnano company Giuseppe Tirinnanzi Spa intends to transfer the warehouse/logistics sector to Telgate (BG) 85 kilometers away from Legnano. A choice deemed “unacceptable” for workers and union representatives both in terms of “the distance and the conditions offered”, deemed “harmful” to the dignity of workers. Precisely for this reason today, Tuesday 11 June, the unions have declared a permanent strike of all employees involved: i.e. 15 workers, more than half of whom have 30 years of service behind them. For its part, the company defends its position by stating that it is acting out of “market necessity” without forgetting the workers. Precisely for this reason the property immediately made itself available to open a discussion table «also improving significantly the proposal to support workers”. A proposal which, however, was deemed “inadequate”.

The dispute began on June 3rd, the date on which the 15 warehouse employees have been informed of “an imminent” transfer (starting from 15 June 2024) in a warehouse located in Telgate (BG). «Choice made by the owners following a ‘presumed’ transfer of a business branch established by the Company Management – explains Fabio Toriello, secretary of Filcams Cgil Ticino Olona – . We immediately expressed our desire to open a trade union discussion with the Company and on 7 June a first meeting took place during which we expressly asked the company to identify alternative solutions to the transfer of the Branch to the Columbus Srl Company, which relies on the Logicoop consortium, which, in turn, contracts the activities to Alma Log which manages several warehouses located, among others, also in Lainate and Arese. However, Tirinnanzi Spa reiterated its desire to continue with the questionable corporate operation motivating it with the unsuitability of the current spaces of the Legnanese factory used for warehouse use and proposing an early retirement incentive equal to 3 gross monthly salaries and a 12-month “outplacement” service for those who were not interested in undergoing the aforementioned transfer to several 85 km away, an offer that we believe is detrimental to the dignity of the workers who for years have contributed to the well-being of the company which to date appears to be in “health”, with a positive balance sheet and strong growth prospects” .

The transfer to an office located at such a distance, which can also be reached via an extremely busy road junction and with exhausting travel times, does not appeal to workers who find themselves in difficulty. «More than half of the 15 employees involved have more than 30 years of service in Tirinnanzi Spa – Toriello specifies -, furthermore there are single-income workers with dependent family members and others who would be denied access to a pension. Inevitably the “solutions” identified by the Company appear, in light of this, incomprehensible, unreasonable and certainly not dignified. The discussion between Filcams and the company management continued yesterday. We have once again requested the maintenance of employment levels also considering a transfer to reasonable distances, but the position of the Company has unfortunately remained unchanged, adding the impossibility of relying on other warehouses located in the surrounding areas as they are already saturated and reiterating the destination of Telgate, perspective which remains impracticable and unacceptable for us.” In light of this, after the state of unrest announced last June 6, Filcams CGIL Ticino Olona declared a permanent strike. “We will stand alongside the workers and families involved by implementing every fighting action in order to protect their jobs and their dignity.”
