The school-work orientation project begins among students of the IIS ”F. Ferrara” and the Port Authority of Mazara del Vallo

This morning at the Port Authority – Coast Guard of Mazara del Vallo the ”PCTO (paths for soft skills and orientation)” project began through the collaboration between the IIS ”F. Ferrara” and the Port Authority of Mazara del Vallo, as a teaching-training method aimed at orientation and encouraging the conscious entry of students into the realistic and dynamic working context. The collaboration, which arises from a specific agreement stipulated between the Coast Guard and the ‘F. Ferrara”, is based on a learning model that brings young people closer to the world of work in a practical way. The project in question will allow students in the fourth and fifth classes to spend thirty hours per week in direct contact with the soldiers of the Port Authority, during all the administrative and operational activities carried out daily within the maritime compartment of jurisdiction. The activity was structured into working subgroups made up of two or three students, who will alternate in the offices used for services intended for public users. In particular, the chosen offices were: navigation safety, pleasure craft, shipping and nautical licenses, fishing and seafarers section. During the period of coaching in the various offices, the students will participate personally in carrying out the procedures of greatest interest, followed by personnel in both civil and military service, who will provide them with an initial briefing on the tasks of the office to which the students are assigned. assigned. Further usefulness is represented by the circumstance whereby the aforementioned agreement provides for the possibility, at the end of the school year and on the occasion of the license exam for the kitchen service qualification (which will be held at the Ferrara institute) of being able to integrate the examining commission with a port officer with the right to vote in order to allow the students to obtain the “ship’s chef” diploma by meeting all the requirements set out in article 7 of the Presidential Decree of 4 July 1957, n. 1065. Before the start of the intense training period, the school director, Dr. Caterina Licia Ingrasciotta, the teachers and the students were welcomed and greeted by the Commander of the Port Authority, Frigate Captain, Raffaele GIARDINA, who expressed satisfaction for the active collaboration with the ”F. Ferrara”, congratulating them for the worthy initiative organised
