Will be held Sunday 16 June the final event of the Messina association’s initiative “The Cave” by title “Football & Respect”: a friendly match which will involve the participants in the project, the Castanea football team and the Workers’ Society of the hilly village in the northern area of Messina. All in the name of inclusion and fun. The kick-off will be at 5pm and the teams will compete in an 11-a-side football triangular, hosted by the Massa San Giovanni pitch of the Circolo La County. The matches will then be followed by refreshments which will accompany a moment of conviviality.
Since October the boys have participated in a series of mini-tournaments which have taken place every Thursday at the Rosario Central pitches, with the aim of using football as a tool to empower young people, teaching them the fundamentals of teamwork and social cohesion , respect for differences and personal growth. The project, approved and financed by the European Commission as part of the ESC (European Solidarity Corps) programme, also included a “third period”, facilitated by the journalist Andrea Denaro, during which various topics of a social and non-social nature were discussed.

“We are very happy and satisfied with the path that our boys have undertaken in recent months. They have grown, learned to reflect and understood how important their opinion can be. But above all, new friendships were born thanks to the team spirit that invaded our afternoons”comment the promoters of the initiative.
“For us it will be an honor to carry out this final event with the Castanea football team, a reality made up of young people who was born last year and who participated in its first championship (in the category…) in the 2023/2024 season and which for the passion demonstrated represents a source of pride for all of Messina”they highlight.

Also playing will be the members of the Workers’ Society, a reality that represents a place of sharing, sociability and inclusion in the town of Castanea: “Excited to participate in this event, the values of this project are shared and are part of our ideals”adds president Carlo Rizzo.
“The principles and values that we want to disseminate are expressed through the game of football understood as a metaphor for life: promoting the values of hospitality, respect for diversity, correct personal growth and a healthy relationship with society. Football therefore becomes a vehicle for social inclusion, a way to bring these young people closer to the community, to make them feel part of a group, to help them overcome their limits and discover their potential”conclude the volunteers of the association “The Cave”.
