The project “At school for the history of Civitavecchia and its territory with the cartography of Arnaldo Massarelli” ended on 31 May in the 5 classes of the A. Cialdi and C. Laurenti schools of the Civitavecchia 1 Comprehensive Institute. Started on 5 February by some members linked to the school, Rosella Setaccioli, Ornella Sorice, Antonio Cossu and Serenella Piermarini, the project was aimed at the new generations in order to sow a seed that will germinate to grow a new generation that is more cohesive and aware of the characteristics of the territory in which it lives .

“If we go to the classrooms of our city, especially in primary school – say the Friends of the Ranalli Fund – we are amazed by the number of pupils of different ethnic groups, languages and customs, who at first glance find themselves dealing with a beautiful language, but as complex as ours. Civitavecchia, in addition to being a port, is also a town that has always welcomed families from other regions who have repopulated the varied and not very homogeneous, but precisely for this reason richer, social fabric.

Neapolitans, Abruzzo, Sardinians, Tuscans, Sicilians, for different reasons, have gradually integrated and merged with an indigenous base very inclined towards hospitality and integration. Today the borders have opened, no longer Italians, but people from all over the world, especially from non-EU countries, where wars and underdevelopment push many to leave their homeland and move to richer and more advanced worlds.

There is therefore a need in schools for quality aid that supports the educational offer in the name of a different relationship, which makes all children feel equal and, at the same time, different and unique due to their originality. Once they have overcome the language barrier, they demonstrate ability, a willingness to study above the norm, free from consumerism and rich in values.

The language of play, fine manual skills, creative originality and the wealth of original audiovisual materials have allowed the volunteer teachers to carry out fruitful work, overcoming most of the obstacles and creating a unanimous understanding and a better stimulus to move forward on the path of knowledge . I thank the teachers of the classes involved in the project, Rosa Rita La
Noce and Giuseppina Guarino, for having had faith in the quality of our work and if the fruits have been there, also next school year our volunteers are available to offer their free support for new and exciting paths”.
