Rhêmes-Saint-Georges landslide: regional road reopened

ACTUALITY’

Rhêmes-Saint-Georges landslide: regional road reopened.

Since this morning, the regional road for the Val di Rhêmes has reopened again, closed yesterday evening, Sunday 9 June, due to the flooding of the Montfra torrent, with debris that invaded the road. This was announced by the mayor Nella Thérisod.

The flooding was caused by yesterday’s heavy rains associated with the melting of snow at high altitude, which caused an overload of water.

The closure measure affected the stretch of road from km 6 (fraction Frassiney) to 7 (crossroads fraction Proussaz).

Forecast

Weather improving. For today the Regional Functional Center forecasts cloudy weather in the foreign border mountains until mid-morning, with some occasional weak precipitation still possible, then dry with irregular cloud cover. The rest of the region is dry with partly cloudy skies due to clouds at medium altitude, especially in the central-western sector, with cloud cover generally easing from mid-morning. In the afternoon, slightly cloudy but with cumulus clouds on the regional border mountains, where the sky may be locally cloudy with a local shower, especially in the eastern sector. The winds at 3000 meters will be weak from the northwest, at times moderate. In the western and central valleys they will be from the West-Northwest, weak in the morning, moderate in the afternoon; in the eastern valleys until the end of the afternoon they will be weak from the East-Southeast, then they will rotate from the Northwest and become moderate.
