A result that does not reward the efforts of the leader South calls North Cateno De Luca and which is also a litmus test for the Basile administration. Not at all responsive to those polls advertised loudly and widely contested which, according to the reading of the leader of the “Freedom” list, would have seen him even at 3.8%. None of this.
IN SICILY: MORE THAN “FIRST PARTY”.
As in Sicily De Luca’s “federated” list with 19 symbols of as many movements, heterogeneous and not at all congruous with each other, recorded a total votes of 114,589 representing 7.68% of voters. There “tested” of South calls North therefore demonstrates that De Luca’s movement it is the fifth political force on the islandAfter Forza Italia with the 23.67%, Brothers of Italy with the 20.18%The Five Stars movementdriven by Antociwith the 16.07% and the Democratic Party with the 14.37%. Other than “first party”.
But the disaggregated data returns the true electoral result of De Luca’s list. In Messina the final count is very far from Cateno De Luca’s wishes that, despite the requests blank resignation of the municipal council which would be in the hands of the general secretariat of the Municipality of Messina, with the approval of the mayor Basile, seems to have just exceeded 20 thousand votes (20,051). A far cry from the 60,000 expected and hoped for in the city alone.
THE “STARCHED AND WHITE” SHIRTS REMAINED WHITE AND CLEAN
In short, as De Luca himself had feared in his first press conference after hospitalization, the “white, starched shirts” of Cateno’s council and advisors were not imbued with that vote-seeking sweat that the leader had asked for. But it is not just a question of “effort” in seeking votes. So much so that, despite even excesses of communication and some hypotheses of crossing the red line by some coordinators, the situation seems to have changed profoundly. Messina’s vote in the 2024 European elections does not reward the Basile administration. Indeed, it highlights all the critical issues: first of all the lack of ability to discuss and communicate with citizens. The administration’s narrative of the results achieved clashes, in fact, more and more with the reality of the facts which, in almost every work, contests the self-celebrations and the many, too many, hasty cutting of ribbons of inaugurations of incomplete or inadequate works such as, a above all, the Aldo Moro park. Or like the critical issues of non-shared roads and the example of a car park like the one in Fondo Fucile which, although unused, is slowly sinking. Works that cost a lot of money, resources that many people from Messina think could be used in a different and more useful way. Not to mention the funds lost because they were not used in time.
Even the province betrays De Luca, even the one closest to him: thus Santa Teresa records 1,795 votes. A figure that has further reduced with the conclusion of the polls. Even in “his” Taormina, the city of which De Luca is mayor, 1,267 vote for him. Values that place the Freedom list in first place compared to other lists.
THE DISAGGREGATE VOTING IN SICILY
The Freedom list does not “overwhelm” in Sicily:
Palermo 3.99% with 15,044 votes – seventh list in order of number of votes; Agrigento 3.79% with 4,696 votes – sixth list; Caltanissetta 5.17% with 4,792 votes, sixth list; Catania4.80% with 15,742 votes, is on the seventh list; Enna4.78% with 2,441 votes, sixth list; Ragusa 5.69% with 4,533 votes, sixth list; Syracuse 6.74% with 7,048 votes, fifth list; Trapani 11.18% with 13,680 votes, sixth list. Messina 21.71% with 46,821 votes, first list.
VOTING IN ITALY
Comparing administrative elections with European elections is always a mistake. But the vote expressed in Italy on the Libertà list shows that, probably, South calls North is not convincing, remaining an essentially Sicilian-Messian political “phenomenon”.
North Western Italy: 0.75% – 50,453 votes, tenth list
North Eastern Italy: 0.82% – 40,262 – eleventh and penultimate list
Central Italy: 0.66% – 28,331 votes – eleventh and penultimate list
Southern Italy: 0.93% – 44,607 votes – tenth list
Insular Italy: 5.96% – 117,466 votes – seventh party
