New houses for 1 euro in Tuscany

To say that Tuscany is one of the most sought-after and loved regions in Italy, and in the world, is stating the obvious. Yet even in Tuscany, depending on the area, it is possible to have a house by paying very little. The important thing is to choose carefully how and where you buy the house.

Among the many Tuscan provinces, if you look closely, there are some that are less economical (like Florence) and much cheaper, so much so that in some you can even find the famous “1 euro houses”. That is, the houses sold by the municipalities at a symbolic price in exchange for renovations and to put a stop to the loss of population in small urban centers.

It may seem strange, but the redevelopment project works: historic centers and small hamlets, especially in the provinces and in the mountains, are suffering from progressive depopulation and thanks to this initiative (for the moment especially in Southern Italy) it is possible to attract new citizens, who they set in motion a virtuous circle of economy and services. Anyone who manages to buy a house for 1 euro needs schools, newsstands, bakeries, general practitioners and everything a family needs. Thus, inevitably, he buffers the loss of citizenship in these areas and in exchange he obtains a house essentially for free.

The project is called “Houses for 1 euro in Tuscany 2024” and gives anyone, both public and private, both residents in the area and residents elsewhere, the opportunity to buy one or more properties at a negligible cost: from 1 euro to a few hundred of euros in total.

Which municipalities in Tuscany sell houses for 1 euro?

The Tuscan municipalities participating in the initiative in 2024 are Montieri and Fabbriche di Vergemoli. These are the pioneer municipalities in the Italian region, but if we consider the whole of Italy the number of municipalities is many dozens.

In Montieri, where the project has been active for about eight years, 20 houses have already been sold. All at a symbolic price. The data shows that the interest in not letting the Tuscan architectural heritage be abandoned is certainly there.
