After last night’s worrying data, voter turnout increased slightly in the 12pm survey even if the number of people who chose to vote remains low. we hope for a more consistent turnout as the evening hours approach.

At 12.00 on the second day of opening of the polls to elect the 8 members of the European Parliament, who belong to the Italian constituency 5 or the island constituency that includes Sicily and Sardinia, Sicily recorded an overall turnout of 17.82%.

The driving effect continues for the vote in the 37 municipalities of the island where there are two ballots delivered to the voters as they also vote to elect the mayors and renew the municipal councils. Voters interested in the administrative round are 483,901. Voting operations took place yesterday Saturday 8 June 2024, from 3pm to 11pm, and resumed today Sunday 9 June 2024, from 7am to end at 11pm.

The turnout was 17.82% in Sicily

The turnout, therefore, stands at 17.82% in Sicily, lower than the national figure where the turnout exceeds 25%.

Caltanissetta and its province continue to lead the turnout. This is because it is the only area where, in addition to the European elections, citizens are also called to elect the mayor and the municipal council of the capital. The turnout here is 24.37%

Agrigento scores 16.25%, Palermo among the large metropolitan areas is the one where people vote the most with 19.04%, then there is Messina with 18.58% and Catania, which is recovering, with 17.06%. , Trapani follows with 17.89% but the lowest overall remains the province of Ragusa where there are no municipalities voting for the local elections and the turnout for the European elections is only 14.45%. Second to last is the province of Enna, another area without administrative offices, with 14.89%, a comparable figure. The third to last is Syracuse which has only one municipality voting for the local elections and which stands at 16.23% turnout at 12.

The scrutiny

Immediately after closing, at 11pm, the counting of ballots for the European elections will begin. The law provides that this ballot takes place simultaneously in all EU countries. In some countries voting began as early as Thursday 6 June. those who have finished voting have sealed the ballot boxes and will open them at 11pm on Sunday 9 June.

The counting for the administrative elections will begin at 2pm on Monday 10 June. The possible run-off round for the local elections will be held, however, on Sunday 23 June from 7am to 11pm and on Monday 24 June from 7am to 3pm.

How to vote, what is needed

The voter must go to the polls bringing with them their voter card and a valid identity document. One or two preferences can be expressed for the candidates for the city council; in the event that two preferences are expressed, these must concern candidates of different genders (a man and a woman). If both preferences belong to the same gender, the second will be cancelled.

The vote expressed for a list extends to the mayoral candidate connected to it, but not vice versa. You can express your preference for a mayoral candidate and a list connected to him, and also express your choice of candidates for the city council; or you can express your preference for a mayoral candidate and for a list not connected to him, with related preferences for the candidates for the city council.
