This educational visit is part of the memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Education, University and Research and the Carabinieri, aimed at increasing the culture of legality and awareness of the importance of safety among young people, promoting knowledge and respect for the rules.
The expert rock, climbing and mountaineering instructors of the Course Section of the Carabinieri Alpine Training Centre, lowering themselves from the second floor of Building “A” of the Centre, demonstrated a particular “double rope” descent technique which allows one to lower oneself along vertical walls, ensuring safe operation during military and rescue operations.
To support this training meeting, a unit from the Laives Carabinieri Dog Unit arrived at the headquarters of the Alpine Training Centre; the military handlers and their highly trained dogs showed the curious little visitors some intervention procedures in the event of mountain rescue following an avalanche, searching for explosive material and illegal substances; the 3rd Carabinieri Helicopter Unit of Laives, with the Carabinieri helicopter pilots, who illustrated in detail the interior of the AB 412 helicopter; finally, a patrol of the mobile radio unit of the Carabinieri Company of Ortisei, composed of the military driver and the patrol leader, showed them the personal equipment of a Radiomobile operator as well as that of the car supplied by the department.
