ANCONA – Voter turnout in the Marche region has dropped. It is the balance of the first day of voting for the European elections and for the local elections involving 148 municipalities. The Marche figure is slightly higher than the national average which stops at 14.64%. The performance of the administrative elections is better, where the provinces of the three capitals are the driving force behind the vote: Ascoli Piceno, Pesaro and Urbino.

For the European elections at 11pm, 15.69% of those entitled to vote out of 1,572 sections against 17.34% in the previous electoral round. These are the data from the Interior Ministry published on the Eligendo portal. The first heat of the season must have slowed down the rush to the polls on the first day of voting, prompting many to prefer the beach to the polling stations.

The province where the lowest turnout was recorded was that of Fermo with 12.32%, while the highest turnout was recorded in the province of Pesaro and Urbino with 18.11%, followed by the province of Ascoli Piceno with 17.89%. In the Ancona area 14.62% of voters voted, while in the Macerata area 15.05%. Ancona is below the national average for the percentage of voters at the polls.

As regards the administrative elections, the figure is higher than that of the municipalities where only the European elections were voted: out of 786 sections, at 11pm, 19.87% of those entitled to vote voted. The province that collects the highest figure by turnout is that of Ascoli Piceno where 22.47% of voters voted. In the province of Fermo 20.32% of voters voted, in that of Pesaro Urbino 19.39%, in the Macerata area 19.59%, and, bringing up the rear in terms of turnout, was the province of Ancona where the 18.88% of those entitled.
