– SOVERATO (CZ) – 9 JUNE 2024 – Giovanni Sgrò, Calabrian entrepreneur from Soverato and promoter of the Naturium cultural project, publicly thanked the journalist Domenico Iannacone for the attention dedicated to Calabria in his broadcast “Che ci fa qui”, recently broadcast on Rai 3.

“Thank you Domenico Iannacone for giving us this attention, thank you for taking this periphery of Europe to heart” wrote Sgrò, underlining the value of a rebirth based on “values and work”.

Iannacone’s broadcast offered an important insight into Calabria, a region which, despite economic and social difficulties, is rich in stories of resistance and passion.

“The data still weighs heavily, the numbers that always see us in the queue for the economy and employment, services and depopulation. But we know very well what values guide us” continued Sgrò. “Thank you for this beautiful page of truth.”

Accompanied by the trader Bartolo Mercuri, Iannacone explored the realities of Gioia Tauro. The journey then continued to Mammola, at the foot of Aspromonte, where he visited the wonderful and almost dreamlike Musaba, a contemporary art museum-laboratory founded by the artist Nik Spatari together with his partner Hiske Maas.

Spatari, friend of Picasso and Le Corbusier, transformed the ruins of an old monastery into a timeless place, preserving works such as “Jacob’s Dream”, considered the Sistine Chapel of Calabria.

Iannacone’s itinerary concluded with a meeting with Gianluigi Greco, university professor at Unical in Cosenza and international expert in artificial intelligence. Thanks to him, many young Calabrians today find work in a Japanese multinational that has established one of its three global AI hubs right in Calabria.

“These are values that characterize us and that we need,” said Sgrò.

“We don’t need anything else, we don’t need hit-and-run commercials or even too much rhetoric about staying and leaving.”

Imagining a future of hope for young Calabrians, Sgrò concluded: “That they can leave, travel, get to know the world, as it should be, but then return…”.

Iannacone’s broadcast is not just a documentary, but an invitation to look at Calabria with new eyes, enhancing stories of passion and resilience that can inspire a better future.
