The current school year has seen the introduction of innovative initiatives in the educational panorama of Lavella schools, thanks to the impulse of the Municipal Administration of Lavello and the vision of the Councilor for Education, Dr. Valentina Garripoli, with the precious collaboration of the Istituto Comprensivo Lavello.

The projects implemented, which range from archeology to recycling within the municipal Right to Study Plan, culminate in a program dedicated to folklore and popular music in primary and lower secondary schools, which has met with great success.

As the Municipality of Lavello makes known:

“Under the guidance of the Headmaster, Prof. Aurelia Bavuso, with competence and great professionalism and with the approval of the Institute Council of the Istituto Comprensivo Lavello, the project aims to weave an indissoluble bond between students and the Lavella cultural heritage through popular music and traditional dances.

These disciplines are not seen simply as relics of a remote era, but as elements of acultural heritage that continues to vibrate in school classrooms.

Dr. Garripoli underlines the importance from a pedagogical point of view of popular music, which becomes a vehicle for stories, traditions, community values and expressive abilities.

Music turns into a tool for navigation issues of social, historical and ethical relevance, encouraging critical thinking and greater cultural awareness.

The Folk group “I F’stinidd”known for his commitment to the diffusion of local culture both in Italy and abroad, had the task of implementing the project.

Through their music and dance, they conveyed the joy and distinctive warmth of our city.

Michele Fornelli, President of the Folk Group “I F’stinidd”, highlights how the traditional dances, now an integral part of the school curriculum, offer students an unparalleled collective learning experience.

Learning the steps of the dances also means understanding their profound meaning and the history they bring with them, helping to consolidate the sense of belonging and social cohesion.

For Maria Pagano, regional president of FITP, discussing folklore in class means open a door to new cultural perspectives, educating students to respect and value traditions, and making them active custodians of the Lavella cultural heritage.

Ultimately, the integration of popular music, traditional dances and folklore into the school curriculum for this year represents not only cultural enrichment, but an essential component of education.

This approach prepares young people to be global citizens, rooted in their own culture but open to intercultural dialogue.

The school thus becomes a laboratory of life, a place where culture manifests itself through experiences, dialogue and personal growth”.
