Tajani: Masci is the best D’Amico: Costantini wins – Pescara

PESCARA. The blow-up of Silvio Berlusconi suddenly appearing on the giant screen and the embrace of the vice prime minister and foreign minister, Antonio Tajaniwith the outgoing mayor Carlo Masci; the elegant applause of the regional councilor Luciano D’Amico for the Pescara dreamed of by Carlo Costantini; the heart and passion appeal of Domenico Pettinari, having reached the feat of the 28th rally in a month of electoral campaign. These are the three snapshots of the last rallies in view of the vote today and tomorrow: now the word goes to 103 thousand people from Pescara. In the photo album, the one of the Renzian is missing Gianluca Fusilli who, yesterday, gave up the adrenaline of the final appeal for a series of face-to-face meetings.
At the center-right party at the Madonnina, with the sea behind us, the construction site of the waterfront costing almost 4 million and Federico Perrotta in singer version, Tajani, president of Forza Italia and candidate for the European elections, pushes Masci like no one: «He was an excellent mayor, one of the best in Italy, a flagship of Forza Italia. He transformed this city but another 5 years of work are needed to complete the work. And I», says Tajani, «wanted to give a signal of great attention to Pescara, Abruzzo and Southern Italy by deciding to bring the G7 development here». Masci, with the full coalition lined up, is moved by the thought of Berlusconi: «In a few days we will remember the first year of his passing but Berlusconi is always in our hearts, his presence is strong and it is a guiding star that pushes us to go still ahead.”
The people of the centre-left gather in Piazza Muzii and applaud to the tune of Ligabue, “The best is yet to come”. «I decided to run for mayor», says Costantini, «for a very specific reason: as a Pescara native, I am tired of seeing my city stopped, dull, without parking and with commerce in crisis. I did it because it is essential to reopen Pescara. We have in mind a citizen-friendly, accessible and inclusive Pescara. We have two days to change Pescara.”
Last to speak, presented by Ernesto Grippo, former head of the traffic police with the administration and now director of the local police of Roseto, is the civic Pettinari: «In Pescara there is a need for a radical change and this can only happen by voting for the civic coalition Pettinari Mayor: we oppose to the policies implemented by the parties that have governed the city in the last twenty years. The parties had the opportunity to govern and they failed: we, however, will not betray the voters’ vote, we will continue until the end with our coherence”. And then the workhorses of the moral question and legality: «I put my life at risk, I held rallies outside the houses of criminals pointing the finger at them and I received threats. I really did everything, I couldn’t do more.”
Even without a rally, Camillo D’Alessandro, president of Italy, attacks Costantini: «Costantini has divided the alternative camp for the second time. They gave Masci the narrative of the unity of the center-right and the division of his opponents, but it wasn’t us. The king is naked: the useful vote is Fusilli.” (pl)
