Today, Sunday, polling stations open until 11pm for the European elections the municipal ones, also in Tuscany.

After 15 years we have returned to voting Saturday. The average turnout at 11pm yesterday nationwide was around around 15% (here real time update with ministry data).

In Tuscany, however, the percentage is 20%., also driven by the administrative vote for two thirds of the Municipalities. Peaks of 22-23% in Florence and in the surrounding municipalities, lower in Prato and especially in Livorno (the percentage for the municipal ones was 18.14% and for the European ones 18.5%).

Today, Sunday, the polls are open until 11pm. And we will also understand more about real participation in the vote.

Comparisons are also difficult, because the other two times that voting took place on a Saturday are too distant in time: 2004 and 2009. The average of voters in those years was always much higher.

Let us remember that all Italian adults (more than 51 million) vote to elect 76 members of the European Parliament. In Tuscany there are also 185 municipalities voting, including three capitals: Florence, Prato, Livorno. In Piedmont there are also regional elections.

The push to vote for mayors and new city councils worked. It happened above all in Florence, where, as we were saying, turnout well exceeded 20%.
