Catanzaro, a city that boasts a highly prestigious football history, has re-embraced the Ceravolo Prize after the break forced by the pandemic and a family bereavement. The eleventh edition of this event, created by journalist Maurizio Insardà, celebrates the figure and work of the “president” of US Catanzaro, Nicola Ceravolo.
In the concert hall of the Municipality, the presentation conference saw the participation of Mariella Ceravolo, daughter of the lawyer and pioneer in bringing a Calabrian team to Serie A, the mayor Nicola Fiorita, the president of the Lnd Calabria and national vice-president, and Pietro Falbo , president of the Chamber of Commerce of the central Calabrian area. Also in the front row was Filippo Ceravolo, brother of the legendary president.
Guest of honor
Insardà, known for hosting the football broadcast “11 in Campo” on LaC, revealed that the 2024 prize will be awarded to the Brescia coach Roberto De Zerbi. Recognized among the best coaches at European level and candidate for internationally prestigious benches, De Zerbi has a special bond with Catanzaro through Pietro Iemmello, the captain of his current Catanzaro team, who had coached at Sassuolo in the 2017-2018 season.
The event, presented by Simona Bertini of Mediaset, will see the participation of veteran sports journalist Italo Cucci.

The speeches during the conference underlined the value of the Ceravolo Prize in keeping alive the name of Nicola Ceravolo, Catanzaro and Calabria both at a national and international level. Mariella Ceravolo expressed full confidence in the organization of Insardà, recalling that each edition and each guest are chosen with the consent of the family. You mentioned how your father, “Don Nicola”, had had the “madness” to imagine unthinkable scenarios for a small city like Catanzaro, thanks to the correctness and good relations with the other provinces.
Mariella also responded to the criticisms received by the Award, underlining with Insardà that the event has always dutifully included local personalities and athletes.
The novelty of the 2024 edition will be the section dedicated to Emanuele Giacoia, whose winners will be announced during the event.
