The regional Civil Protection has published a warning for the risk of fires and heat waves, valid from midnight on 9 June and for the following 24 hours.
For tomorrow, Sunday, a risk of fires with high danger has been declared in the provinces of Palermo and Trapani and a red alert level (attention).
As regards the risk of heat waves, again for tomorrow, a maximum perceived temperature of 34 degrees centigrade (level 1, yellow) is expected in Palermo.
The forecast for Sunday 9 June
A high pressure field embraces Sicily guaranteeing stable and sunny weather everywhere. Specifically, on the Tyrrhenian coast and on the Apennines, mostly clear or slightly cloudy skies for the entire day, except for the presence of some evening cloudiness; On the Ionian coast, the southern coast and inland areas, mostly clear or slightly cloudy skies for the entire day.
South and Sicily. The African anticyclone Scipione controls the weather over the regions, but on this day the sky will at times be cloudier over Campania, Basilicata and Puglia. No precipitation is expected. The winds will blow weakly from variable directions, the seas will therefore be little rough or calm. The climate will be summery, even hot in Puglia and Sicily.
In the rest of Italy
Weak winds from the north-eastern quadrants attenuating and rotating to the south-western quadrants. Lower Tyrrhenian Sea and slightly rough Sicilian Sea; Channel slightly rough to rough.
North. The pressure decreases therefore the day will begin immediately with a sky that is often very cloudy or even overcast. Strong storms will arrive during the afternoon and will move towards the Triveneto from the North-West in the evening and night. Extreme phenomena such as hailstorms and sudden gusts of wind are expected. Cooler climate where stormy, summery elsewhere.
Center and Sardinia. The anticyclone Scipione loses power and so the day will start immediately with a very cloudy or overcast sky, but without precipitation. During the afternoon, some precipitation will arrive between Tuscany and Lazio, occasionally in the form of thunderstorms. Elsewhere there will be sunny spells. Winds from the south, very rough Tyrrhenian Sea. Summer climate.
