The 2,406 polling stations set up for the European elections today and tomorrow were opened regularly in Calabria, 606 of which will also be in operation for administrative consultations in 132 municipalities that will also have to renew their mayors and civic assemblies. The electoral sections at provincial level are divided as follows: Catanzaro (425), Cosenza (882), Crotone (211), Reggio Calabria (676) and Vibo (212). In total, from the Pollino to the Strait, there are one million 750,955 people entitled to vote, of which 850,174 are male and 900,781 are female. The polls will remain open today from 3pm to 11pm and tomorrow from 7am to 11pm. In some of the cities there were problems in setting up the electoral sections which were however resolved in the following hours. In Calabria there are 471,341 people entitled to vote for the municipal elections alone. Vibo Valentia is the only provincial capital interested in today’s and tomorrow’s session with four candidates for mayor: Enzo Romeo supported by the centre-left, Roberto Cosentino (centre-right), Francesco Muzzupappa (centre) and Marcella Murabito (Communist Rifondazione). Over 71 thousand voters are in Corigliano Rossano, the third most populous city in the region where the outgoing mayor Flavio Stasi (centre-left) and Forza Italia regional councilor Pasqualina Straface for the centre-right are competing. There are two other municipalities with a population of more than 15 thousand inhabitants interested in voting: Gioia Tauro (16,312 voters) and Montalto Uffugo (20,559).
