Lamezia Terme – After the polling stations have been set up, voting operations will begin from 3pm until 11pm tomorrow in the electoral round which will involve voting for both the European elections and the municipal elections in various administrations in Calabria. The polls will remain open: Saturday 8 June from 3pm to 11pm, Sunday 9 June from 7am to 11pm. The counting of votes will begin at 11pm on the same Sunday for the European elections, followed by the counting of the ballot papers for the municipal elections.

The European elections

As regards the European elections, in the Southern constituency which includes Abruzzo, Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Molise and Puglia, 18 MEPs will be elected and for the first time the non-resident vote will be experimented with, i.e. the students who will vote in the next European elections” off-site”, in special special sections which will be established in the regional capital municipalities and which will be able to accommodate up to 800 registered voters. Many Calabrian candidates have been fielded by the various parties that will compete for a seat in the Brussels parliament for a total of 12 lists that will compete for the 18 seats in contention out of a total of 76.

The local elections

There are 135 Municipalities called to vote in Calabria and 4 above 15 thousand inhabitants, and therefore with the second round expected on 23 and 24 June. Vibo Valentia, Corigliano-Rossano, Gioia Tauro and Montalto Uffugo. The province in which there are the most municipalities that will have to choose the mayor is Cosenza with 65 municipal administrations to be defined. Then Reggio with 27, followed by Catanzaro (19), Vibo (13) and finally Crotone with 11. In Lametino, in particular, where the vote was held on 26 May 2019, there are four municipalities involved. Cortale, Motta Santa Lucia, Pianopoli and San Pietro a Maida.
