Monza also has its tennis stars. To shine at 57th edition of the Avvenire Europe Tennis Tournament – underway until Saturday in Milan on the courts of the Club Ambrosiano– have been Carla Giambelli and Vittoria Medina, very young “racquets” of the Villa Reale Tennis Monza in via Boccaccio. The two fierce sixteen-year-olds won the doubles ranking while Carla, alone, dominated the Under 16 draw which saw the best tennis players from the old continent involved.

Duvier Medina, national technician and coach, is satisfiedtogether with his staff, of the two promising athletes, one of whom, as can be seen from the surname, is his daughter.

“They were very emotional days-begins-the girls played with determination and great character”. Medina, who at the end of his competitive career dedicated himself to teaching tenniswith particular interest in young talent, praises the ability of the two athletes “withstand pressure and expectations”.

Carla, on her way in the singles tournament, eliminated the favorites. She was first seeded number 1, the Polish Oliwia Sybicka, then the Romanian Andrea Olariu (number 4 on the scoreboard) and in the final she got the better of the strong Bosnian Tea Kovavcevic.

“Carla is having an excellent competitive journey –takes over Medina– and will soon be called up to the Under 16 national team. We hope that her career continues in the best possible way. We believe in her a lot and are doing everything we can to make her grow.”. Medina reminds us of the importance of creating around athletes “a peaceful and pressure-free environment”. “It’s not always easy-he admits-but we do our best to make young talents who face so many sacrifices together with their families feel at ease”.

Carla, who at just eleven years old had already won a tournament in Miami and another at the “Rafa Nadal Academy” in Manacoron the Spanish island of Mallorca, inherited the passion (and DNA) for tennis from her father (just like Vittoria). Originally from Concorezzodespite his sporting commitments (he trains every day in the morning and afternoon on the tennis courts of the Villa Reale Tennis Monza), he hasn’t given up on studying and follows lessons remotely. An intense summer awaits her, full of training and tournaments. “We also try to give our contribution to the Italian tennis movement –concludes Medina– and we are very happy with the progress of our athletes.”
