The extraordinary setting of the Conti castle (in the photo) in Modica is preparing to host, from 1 to 7 July, the first edition of Music ‘n’ Inclusion, the international week of Music Therapy and Inclusive Arts. An entire week of workshops, exhibitions and conferences, but also evening performance events that will be offered to the external public. Music ‘n’ Inclusion will bring together national and international teachers and artists, offering the opportunity to attend dance and music performances, theatrical performances, screenings, meetings, participate in music therapy and inclusive arts workshops, as well as workshops open to all. The event is organized by the Gabriel Marcel cultural association, founded in Catania in 1999 and which has been organizing important artistic events at a national and international level for 25 years.

“The wonderful Conti castle, with its charm, will host us for the whole week, and will be a space dedicated to all the inclusive arts connected to music therapy – says the president of the Gabriel Marcel association, Raffaella Iuvara -. A week dedicated to all those who have an interest in the arts, inclusion and helping relationships. We will have internationally renowned guests who will hold training workshops but we will also offer citizens film clubs, discussions, debates and shows, ‘seasoned’ with tastings offered by our sponsors”.

Among the guests, the jazz musician Enrico Zanella; musician Dave Camlin (pictured below), founder of Cumbrian music organisation, SoundWave and currently Head of the Higher Education and Research Program at Sage Gateshead; music therapist Laura Festa, director at the North Yorkshire Music Therapy Centre; the Spaniards Maria Jose Sanchez Parra and Peter Varea Llacer; the French musician and choreographer Yves Favier; the Swiss Sabine Otterli, leading expert in the Dalcroze method; flamenco teacher and choreographer Cetty Pandolfo; the percussionist and researcher Peppe Di Mauro.

Music ‘n’ Inclusion is therefore an event dedicated not only to artists and professionals who work in the field of care relationships, inclusive teaching and inclusive and accessible performing arts, but will also and above all be a multidisciplinary cultural container, an opportunity for meeting and dialogue between artists, sector professionals and the public world. All starting from the awareness that social and educational inclusion is one of the fundamental pillars for a just and diversified society. An inclusion that does not translate into acceptance, but rather into the creation of environments that promote equal opportunities, taking into account individual differences, guaranteeing everyone access to resources and supports suited to their needs.

The event is organized in partnership with the Municipality of Modica and the Pachino Cooperative Credit Bank. Martina Monaca, coordinator of the Modica branch of the AraMagis Triennial School of Music Therapy, says she is very satisfied with the impact of the event on the Modica area, which is very dear to her, and with the positive responses from the numerous supporters of the event: Coop Gruppo Radenza, ChocoHouse , Sabadì slowliving, Otofon deafness, Objective Hearing, Inaqqua swimming pools, Dr. Michela Monaca professional couselor, Modicanello, San Giorgio Modica Hotel, Terra di Shiva APS.
