“MagicaMente 2024” kicks off at the Royal Palace of Portici

PORTICOS – It’s the Seawhich geographically, artistically and emotionally characterizes every strip of land touched by it, the theme identified for the fourth edition of the exhibition Magically, which will start Saturday 8 June 2024 at 9.00 pm at the Reggia di Portici, in the spaces of the Pallacorda field, organized by the Pozzo e il Pendolo Teatro of Naples (in case of rain the shows will move indoors to the Galoppatoio).

Magically it is a project born three years ago as a space shared with artists and companies, which sought evocative settings, alternative places to theaters, where the theater can echo.

In the first two editions the exhibition was hosted in Castel dell’Ovo, at the Cloister of San Domenico Maggiore, at the Maschio Angioino, at the Railway Museum of Pietrarsa, imagining it to be itinerant from the beginning and modeling it according to the hosting places.

Since last year, a stable and prestigious venue has been chosen, such as the Royal Palace of Portici, in which to consolidate the identity of the event with a large calendar of events that will start with this first segment of June, to strengthen the concreteness and stability of the collaboration between the Pozzo and the Pendulum Theatre, the Department of Agriculture, the Musa and the Municipality of Portici.

«Three years ago – underlines Annamaria Russo, artistic director – this project was born as an experiment that had the character of a gamble: physically distant realities and with very different vocations, met to develop an idea that centered on the beauty. Magically it has become a reality that has given us results far superior to those hoped for. A balance that has stimulated us not simply to replicate, but to relaunch.”

Il Pozzo e il Pendolo Teatro has always had the vocation of telling stories, and could not ignore those told by the sea, the theme of this edition. He could not ignore the voice of the sea, the voice of an ancient memory, of a future already written, yet still yet to be written.

Magical nights, therefore, in the splendid setting of the Bourbon Palace, where the Pallacorda field is transformed into an open-air theatre, and literature magically transforms into scenic creation.

There are three shows scheduled in this first segment of the event, which will start on Saturday 8 June, with Paolo Cresta in Twentieth century by Alessandro Baricco. It is a poignant, bitter, very sweet fairy tale. The story of an exceptional pianist, capable of playing wonderful music, music that exists nowhere else other than the ocean. A few pages, a symphony of words, and a story that seems to echo legends of times gone by.

His name is Twentieth century, his world is a ship from which he doesn’t know how to get off. Because beyond that ship there is life. The real one. And the music, that which “plays because the ocean is big and scary” it is instead the only life he can imagine.

It is music that can play through eighty-eight keys, infinite music through a finite instrument. The only music that Novecento can play. The only life he can live.

It is a journey through the pages of Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s masterpiece the show One hundred years of solitudeon stage on Saturday 15 June, ‘guided’ by the words of Paolo Cresta and the live music of Ringe Ringe Raja, adapted and directed by Annamaria Russo and Ciro Sabatino.

Words become music and music becomes words, among the suggestions of a country that will live as long as the lineage of its founder has life, among a jumble of extreme feelings and the inescapable loneliness of a thousand characters who never manage to being alone. A musical story, a concert of words for a show that would like to be a secular prayer, dedicated to the immensity of literature.

They are pages that make you travel while still, those of One hundred years of solitude. They are words that have crossed three generations, binding them to that thin thread of belonging that makes readers feel like members of a privileged caste: a caste of millions of readers.

To close this first segment of MagicaMente 2024Saturday 22 June, will be You my by Erri de Luca, with Nico Ciliberti and Giacinto Piracci, directed by Annamaria Russo. It is an alienating love story, set against the backdrop of the island of Ischia. The sea, the music, the voices of the fishermen and the more distant ones of a recently ended war “tell” the fresco of a difficult era and age.

You my it is a story of overcoming the so-called shadow linecentered on the transition from the privileges of adolescence to the roughness of maturity.

The dominant element of the story is precisely the search for contradictions and the transition of identity: on the one hand that of the sixteen-year-old protagonist of the story, who finds himself dealing with the approach of adulthood. On the other, between the lines, that of an Italy committed to purging the indefinite post-war atmosphere, with the need to leave behind the problems of old and new allies.

Tickets for the events of the show can be purchased online on the website www.etes.it, in Etes sales points and directly at the event location, starting from 8.30pm on the day of the show.
