A turning point in the protest by residents and religious people of the school and church of San Giuseppe al Trionfale, in Prati, over the installation of an antenna for the mobile telephony of the operator Iliad. On Thursday afternoon the assembly of the condominium in via Savonarola which was negotiating for the installation of the device voted no (with only one abstention) to the project. «We are happy with the condominium’s decision to reject it almost unanimously the proposed antenna installation – explains Don Salvatore Alletto, director of the school and superior of the Community of San Giuseppe al Trionfale -. I would like to thank the condominium owners for the sensitivity and attention shown. We hope soon there will be regulation of the location of mobile telephone systems. The school and the community are sensitive sites and must be protected.”
Regulation still being approved
In particular, the school «is among the sites identified by table 1.01 attached to the Capitoline Council resolution no. 17/2023, with which the draft municipal regulation relating to the localization of mobile telephone systems was approved. As stated on the relevant web page of the Municipality of Rome – explain the residents opposed to the plant -, “the Regulation scheme is aimed at ensuring the correct urban, territorial and environmental settlement of the plants, minimizing the exposure of the population to electric fields , magnetic and electromagnetic””. And they add that the document states that «the criteria adopted for the identification of sites classifiable as “sensitive” are particularly oriented towards the protection of the most fragile users: young children, adolescents, the sick, the elderly and people with disabilities”. Following the outcome of the public consultation process (the deadline for which expired on 22 May 2023), the Regulation is awaiting definitive approval by the Capitoline Assembly”.
