THEThe Ministry of University and Research has announced the results of the ministerial tender issued with Ministerial Decree 1274/2021 for the modernization and redevelopment of university buildings. With ministerial decree 05.14.2024, n. 729, the ranking of projects admitted to co-financing for line E) was published yesterday, 5 June 2024, in the Official Journal.

The project submitted by the University of Foggia ranked 10th out of 42 projects presented by other universities, obtaining the requested co-financing in full, equal to €12,686,195.00. This co-financing will be used for the renovation and redevelopment of the Miale Barracks, purchased at the end of 2022 thanks to the support of the Puglia Region with co-financing of approximately 7 and a half million euros, which will allow the University of Foggia to expand its spaces and services to students .

“On my personal behalf and that of the entire academic community, I express satisfaction with the co-financing obtained from the Ministry of University and Research which recognized and rewarded our proposal for building renovation and redevelopment interventions, assigning what we requested during the application phase to the ban – declared the Rector of the University of Foggia, Lorenzo Lo Muzio – Heartfelt thanks to the General Director, Dr. Teresa Romei, to the Director Matteo Di Trani and to all those who contributed to the achievement of this further goal towards the expansion and modernization of the university structures which are essential to meet the needs increasingly growing linked, in particular, to teaching but also to research and third mission activities. The recovery and refunctionalization project of the Miale barracks, acquired during the mandate of my predecessor, prof. Pierpaolo Limone is of strategic importance within the development policies of our University and also represents the commitment of our Community aimed at returning to our young people and to the city the prestigious structures and spaces of its history. We have done this in the past with the structures currently home to other Departments, I am thinking for example of the recovery of the former complex of Via Arpi, the ancient site of a convent and hospital, but also of the racecourse complex, the former court building, the former swimming pool in Via da Zara and the former gym in Via Galliani, structures transformed by the University into places of culture and multidisciplinary learning which complement the structures we built from scratch such as the biomedical centre, and which offer our students the opportunity to train and live a rich and stimulating university experience”.

“This result represents an important piece for the realization of a redevelopment project of a historic building, former headquarters of the Police School, which we hope will be able to provide concrete responses to the policies of increasing the training offer and services to students, becoming an integral part of the university campus spread across the city of Foggia – declared the vice-rector with responsibility for the Budget, Michele Milone –. The resources that will arrive thanks to this co-financing, the result of collective work, are important for the realization of this project but not exhaustive. This makes the commitment of the governance even more important to achieve one of the central objectives of this rectoral mandate, namely the implementation of development projects also in the construction sector which allow Foggia to be transformed from a city that hosts a University to a University City”.

“I join in the Rector’s satisfaction with this result which rewards the commitment and determination of the technical and administrative staff of the University of Foggia which I am honored to lead – declared the general director, Teresa Romei – The excellent result obtained with a excellent positioning, which sees us in tenth place in the national merit ranking, adds to other successes achieved, such as the assignment of the FFO, which attest to the virtuosity of the administrative action always aimed at achieving governance objectives for the benefit of the community and of the community. My applause goes to all the staff involved in the administrative processes, in particular to Dr. Matteo Di Trani, manager of the operational management department, for his commitment with competence and spirit of self-sacrifice. The growth of our University in terms of enrolments, recorded in recent years, has made the need to provide concrete answers in terms of university buildings central. Without a doubt the structural recovery and redevelopment project of the Miale Barracks, which is characterized by complexity and onerousness, goes in this direction and joins other projects currently under construction, such as the new buildings of the Medicine Center strongly supported by the Rector Lo Muzio and the previous Rector Limone. The co-financing obtained from the Ministry will now give us the opportunity to move, with renewed impetus, to a more strictly operational phase in the realization of one of the most ambitious projects in the 25-year history of the University, valued at around 31 million euros, and which I am sure it will be completed in a short time, with the full support of the Rector and the University governance”.
