Contemporary Cremona | Art Week closes with over 20 thousand visitors

CREMONA – Great success for the second edition of Cremona Contemporanea | Art Week, an exhibition dedicated to the visual arts which from 18 to 26 May transformed Cremona into a place of knowledge and discovery, through exhibitions, meetings and events aimed at stimulating dialogue between the art of the present and the vast historical-artistic heritage that the city preserve. The initiative, created with the artistic direction of Rossella Farinotti and coordination of CFAgencywas promoted byDepartment of Culture of Cremona with the collaboration of province of Cremonafrom the room of Commerce of Cremona and of Confcommercio province of Cremona.

The exhibition project recorded the presence of over 20,000 visitors, including citizens, tourists, professionals and art enthusiasts but also neophytes and the curious. Contemporary Cremona | Art Week confirms itself once again as an important opportunity for valorising and promoting the artistic heritage of Cremona, in Italy and abroad.

«The second edition recently ended e we are already working on the next one. We are very satisfied with this great project carried out together with the city and with a now close-knit team. We have reactivated places that had not been accessible to the public for years; a community of visitors, artists, citizens, art professionals and curious travellers, who experienced the city actively thanks to the works of art that dotted Cremona, was created both on weekends and during the working week. A heartfelt thank you to all those who supported us and to the artists, passionate and sensitive companions on this complex journey” concludes Rossella Farinotti, artistic director of Cremona Contemporanea | Art Week.

Contemporary Cremona | Art Week 2024 saw strong participation from the city, with the involvement of 180 volunteers who allowed a total coverage of approximately 2,100 hours for all 10 days. During the event, the volunteers – aged between 16 and 65 – carried out various activities with great enthusiasm and involvement including reception, visitor counting and cultural mediation of the exhibited works.

At the center of the initiative, 19 important contemporary artists active on the international scene during the Art Week who animated the city with 120 works, many of which were site specific. This year’s protagonists were: Thomas Berra, Federico Sing it, Victoria Colmegna, Lucia Christians, Luca De Angelis, Luca De Lever, Jeremy Deller, Roberto Fassone, Claire Fontaine, Francis Gennari, Judith Hopf, Michele Lombardelli, Nevine Mahmoud, Jonas Mekas, Daniele Milvio, Ornaghi&Prestinari, Emma Talbot, Patrick Allfire, Zoe Williams.

Starting from the heart of the city to the more remote areas, there were 27 places to discover and visit along the route of Cremona Contemporanea | Art Week, among historic buildings, squares, museums, galleries, churches, antiques workshops, theatres, institutes, universities and disused places. In particular, among the new features of the 2024 edition: the Teatro di San Luca, Palazzo Vidoni Pagliari, the cloister of the Church of Foppone, Palazzo Stanga Trecco, Palazzo Raimondi – home of the Department of Musicology and Cultural Heritage of the University of Pavia -, the School of Violin Making, the campus of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, the Temple of San Luca, Strada Basolata Romana, Antichità Mascarini, Casa Stradivari and the Ponchielli Theatre. Added to these are places that characterized the route of the first edition, such as Palazzo del Comune, San Carlo Cremona, which became a cultural reference point for the Art Week and for the city, together with the San Lorenzo Archaeological Museum, Palazzo Affaitati, RobolottiSei, Triangolo, Teatro Filodrammatici, Palazzo Zaccaria Pallavicino – Fasa Architetti, Palazzo Fodri – PQV Fine Art and many others.

Great participation success also for the “Faville projects”, initiatives carried out with important Italian and international cultural realities with the aim of enriching and expanding the exhibition itinerary of the event which will return next year with a new programme. Among these: the collective exhibition No Future which recounted the latest experiments of very young artists, with a selection of Ettore Favini and Triangolo, in the historic setting of Palazzo Guazzoni Zaccaria; the Cinque Maestri series of author documentaries created in collaboration with the Audiovisiva platform and the Filodrammatici theatre; the collective exhibition Eterni Femminili created in collaboration with Longari Arte Milano and Cantore Galleria Antiquaria at Palazzo Vidoni; the exhibition Andrzej Steinbach: Figur I organized in collaboration with Galerie Conradi (Hamburg) at Residenza Torriani; the exhibition Making Dust Shine² by SC_NC (Stefano Comensoli And Nicholas Colciago) for Progetto Ludovico; the series of meetings and intimate stories about painting Bar Cremona with Thomas Braida, Andrew Magnani, Martha Ravasi; the exhibition project Testament of Roberto Amoroso focused on climate change and the apocalyptic chatter of the media; the Arethusa sound performance by Luciana Elizondo And Fabio Gionfrida which animated Palazzo Fodri for all the days of the Art Week. The appointment for the third edition is in May 2025.
