VENICE – Liters and liters of fuel ended up in the Giudecca canal yesterday morning during an operation refueling at the petrol pump. The damage occurred at the petrol station at the foot of the bridge to go to Stucky, right in front of the Fortuny artistic fabrics factory. At a certain point, the dealership’s vessel that supplies supplies to the distributor had some problems completing the operation, finding itself having to manage a leak of liquids both on the rocks and on the ground. The causes that led to the damage are yet to be clarified, it was not known whether the difficulties were in the distributor’s accommodation system or whether some anomaly had occurred.

The fact is that in the late morning, shortly after 11, the police were alerted to secure the area. A large spill because, if on the one hand the smell in the area was still intense yesterday evening, on the other the fire guards’ depolluting boat also had to intervene in the busy canal. This is a particular means that manages to clean up the area by absorbing the fuel before it spreads and also makes nautical transit more dangerous. The use of the vehicle is normal practice for prevent the slick from entering the city canalsnothing to worry about, therefore, also because the anomaly was contained within a short time. In the excited moments, several boats intervened to circumscribe the perimeter and verify that the operations were going in the right direction. Any responsibilities for the incident remain to be identified. The distributor was placed under seizure yesterday by the judicial authority pursuant to article 354 of the code of criminal procedure, which provides for the seizure of the area until the intervention of the public prosecutor. For this reason, yesterday in the area there were seals grabbing from the red and white tape placed around the petrol pumps and a part of the area near the bridge. Moreover, last night the smell of fuel was still strong and the signs were visibly “pink”. Other damage, which probably occurred during the operations, was that linked to a pole which last night surfaced and disappeared in the water depending on the waves. The pole suffered a partial break, ending up on the surface of the water and surfacing from time to time. A danger for those who sail.
