In 2014 he was issued a certification by the prefect of Reggio Calabria which allowed his company to work with the public administration. The same office, however, changed its mind in 2021 by issuing an anti-mafia interdiction and effectively leading to the closure of the company. Antonio Maviglia’s lawyer, Pasquale Simari, appealed against that provision to the Regional Administrative Court of Reggio Calabria and the administrative judges ruled in his favour.
The prefecture, in the interdiction, had highlighted «a circumstantial framework considered overall symptomatic of the danger of mafia infiltration… in the specific territorial context of reference, coinciding with the so-called “Jonian mandate”, and having regard to the peculiar sector of the so-called trust-grazing authorizations, a network of parental and relational relationships with subjects gravitating around the Morabito-Palamara-Bruzzaniti gang, active in Africa”. Antonio Maviglia, as mentioned, was the owner of a livestock business dedicated to the breeding of cattle, sheep and goats in the wild and for this reason the recipient, over time, of authorizations for grazing by the Calabria Verde company as well as by the Municipalities of San Luca and Samos. In February 2021, the prefect of Reggio Calabria adopted an anti-mafia interdiction against the company on the basis of some information from the provincial command of the Carabinieri of Reggio Calabria. A decision that led to the natural closure of the company.
