In 2023, almost 6.5 billion euros were spent on durable goods in Piedmont, 8.6% more than in 2022. According to what was found by the Findomestic observatory in collaboration with Prometeia, this year in its thirtieth edition, the increase is lower than both the national figure (+8.9%) and the macro-area of the North-West (9.3%), but is supported by the growth of some sectors such as motor vehicles, used cars and household appliances.

«Spending on used cars and motorbikes grew in the region by 20.5% (1 billion and 984 million euros) and 23.2% (178 million) respectively, slightly more than what happens on average in the North-West and in the case of used cars even more than the national average”, comments Claudio Bardazzi, head of the Findomestic observatory. New cars are also growing (+13.4%, 1 billion 546 million), but to a lesser extent than the North West and Italian average. Good increase in purchases of household appliances (+3.9% 422 million) while furniture remains essentially stable (+0.7% to 1 billion 529 million). Reductions, as also happens in the rest of Italy, in consumer electronics (-27.9%) and information technology (-7%).

Consumer electronics, third in terms of growth in the whole country, is held in Novara. The durable goods market in the capital experienced a positive 2023 despite being one of the provinces with the lowest per capita income growth in the region (+5.6%). Spending on durables totaled 550 million, 10.8% more than in 2022 (with an average of 3,347 euros per family). The driving force was the increase in spending volumes for new cars (+22.4%, 158 million euros), more than used cars which stopped at 19.2% increase and 160 million in total. Purchases of motor vehicles increased by 17.2% compared to 2022, going from 12 to 14 million euros in total. For the purchase of household appliances, spending in the province grew by 3.7%, in line with the good results throughout Piedmont. Similar situation for furniture, where the increase was 0.8% exactly like the Italian average, for 120 million dedicated to this segment. In negative territory were telephony (42 million, -2.3%) and information technology (13 million, -6.9%) while consumer electronics (TV), although decreasing, totaled 9 million in spending with a decrease of 26.7% which is the third lowest among all 107 Italian provinces.
